Diet

I typically consume a healthy, well-rounded diet year round that consists mainly of foods such as oatmeal, yams, brown rice, chicken breast, turkey breast, egg whites, salmon, green veggies, nuts, whey protein, and other foods considered “fitness staples.” Although I certainly enjoy occasional “treats” such as white chocolate chip cookies, pancakes, pizza, and ice cream, I do not make these foods a regular part of my diet on a daily basis. I indulge in my “treats” during my off-season where I choose 3-4 meals per week with my family where I have whatever I want (in moderation) without feeling guilty. Since I eat 42 “meals” per week (6 meals a day 7 days per week is 42 meals), eating 4 “out of bounds meals” during the week (out of 42 meals) means that I eat healthy meals roughly 91% of the time.

When it comes time to prepare for a competition (typically 8-12 weeks out from the show), my diet becomes extremely strict and more restrictive. During these 8-12 weeks, I do not indulge in any “treats” at all in order for my body to make the necessary changes. I adjust my diet according to how my body is changing and how I need my physique to come in for the competition. Either way, the timing of the food, as well as the food proportions, is precisely monitored to ensure my body responds appropriately.

I found over the years of competing and training clients that adjusting your body to make better food choices on a regular basis takes discipline, planning, and preparation. Once you become educated in choosing the right foods to reach your goals, life becomes a bit easier. However, preparing fresh, healthy food that tastes good is a continual chore between the shopping, food prep, and clean-up. In an effort to make this part of the process a bit easier, I developed MonFIT Meals. Through MonFIT Meals, I have the ability to leave most of the food shopping, cooking, and clean-up to someone else. MonFIT Meals offers a comprehensive menu of  poultry, lean cuts of beef, seafood, fresh vegetables, and starchy carbohydrates (such as brown rice) that is made fresh and comes ready to heat up in the appropriate portion size. Check out the MonFIT Meals catalog to find out more about this unique service.
